The Mindfulness Trend in Horticulture

Posted on: 20/06/2017

‘Mindfulness’ is the trend du jour. It has spilled out of yoga classes and into every aspect of life. Having colonised classrooms and inspired new office practices, it was only a matter of time before mindfulness found its way into horticulture. Here’s how to make your garden a paradise of mindfulness.

Mindful Patios

You know what makes your dawn yoga and meditation session a lot more comfortable? A smooth flat surface to lay your mat on. This isn’t always possible outdoors. However, if your new patio has been laid by professional pavers, there’ll be no lumps and bumps underneath you as you greet the sun and do the downward-facing dog.

Mindful Ponds

Still water represents tranquillity. What could be more tranquil than an English pond in summer? The sun glistening off the water as a frog sits on a lily pad. Maybe you are just a frog sitting on a lily-pad dreaming that you are a human meditating on the patio. Who knows?

Mindful Flowers

The beautiful colours and fresh scents of flowers are famous for invoking memories. Inhale deeply the aroma of a flower familiar from childhood and you may be transported back in time. Mindfulness techniques will help you stay and relive the memory for longer before you are snapped back to reality.

Mindful Statues

If you want us to build a small shrine at one end of your patio it is not a problem. A squat little statue of Buddha sitting cross-legged staring at you while you meditate may help you focus on your zen.
